This series systematically works through the books of 1, 2 and 3 John in order to comprehensively understand what it means to believe in the name of the Son of God so that we may know that we have eternal life.

Part 1 - John the Authoritative Apostle

1 John 1:1-4

John starts his letter with a declaration of authority and an invitation to know you have eternal life because you have heard, seen, looked and felt the touch of the Word who was from the beginning.

Part 2 - Calling All Hypocrites

1 John 1:5-2:2

God’s character is that He is light. This light calls all hypocrites to take off their masks and allow the light to reveal the truth.

Part 3 - Knowing You Know Jesus

1 John 2-3-11

John encourages his readers to persist in their spiritual walk by confronting them with a social test. Do they love the adelphos (brothers and sisters) or do they hate the adelphos because they stumble and cause others to stumble?

Part 4 - When Identity and Actions Are Incompatible

1 John 2:12-17

In Jesus our identity is to be children of God who are mature, or growing in maturity. This identity means that we are incompatible with the world, therefore we cannot love the world.

Part 5 - The Nice Antichrists

1 John 2:18-29

The antichrists are around all the time and many of them are very nice. If they are going to be saved our radically calling is not to be nice Christians, but sacrificially loving Christians. John teaches us how to do this

Part 6 - Lavish Love Lavishly Shared

1 John 3:1-24

God’s unconditional, forgiving, accepting love has caused God to take responsibility to save us. We take this lavish love and lavish that love onto others.

Part 7 - No Fear In Love

1 John 4:1-21

We know that we have eternal life when we fully understand that the love of God means our relationship with God will never be driven by fear.

Part 8 - Being Overcomers

1 John 5:1-12

The struggles and hardships of life, and our sinful failures, can bring us to a point where we don't feel like overcomers. John calls us not to trust our feelings, but to trust Jesus who truly calls us overcomers.

Part 9 - Keep Yourself From Idols

1 John 5:13-21

In the first century idols were a prevalent and ordinary part of society, and they were a spiritual distraction for Christians. Today we need to be just as much on our guard against the idols of this age.

Part 10 - Sometimes Be Inhospitable

2 John 1-13

There are times when Christians can be inhospitable towards those who are seeking to deceive or cause us to lose enthusiasm for eternity. Who are you accepting and giving credibility to when it comes to directing your spiritual life?

Part 11 - Genuine Ministry Life

3 John 1-14

Through this very personal letter we are called to a life of encouragement, to honestly look at our ministry motives, and to live a life of sacrificial involvement
