The Greek word for parable literally means “to place alongside”. Through this series we will focus on 13 parables containing common stories from life which have, placed alongside, a spiritual truth.

Part 1 - The Purpose of the Parables

Matthew 13:10-17

Jesus uses parables to either reveal callous hearts where the word is being taken away, or reveal receptive hearts which have an increasing harvest.

Part 2 - The Mustard Seed and the Yeast

Matthew 13:31-33

The parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast encourage Kingdom members to expect growth and an abundant response to the Gospel, irrespective of, what may seem like, an insignificant beginning or effort.

Part 3 - Parable of the Two Sons

Matthew 21:28-32

Jesus tells a very point parable to confront the religious elite with the truth that their religious activities were not taking place in the vineyard that was doing the will of the Father. The true vineyard is only where Jesus is the vine.

Part 4 - The Treasure and the Pearl

Matthew 13:44-46

Part 5 - The Dishonest Manager

Luke 16:1-9

Through this puzzling parable Jesus teaches disciples to act shrewdly by taking worldly examples bold and decisive action and learning from them. With the purpose of making a greater contribute towards eternity.

If we keep walking past “obvious unseen” people, and we keep doing “obvious unseen” actions, and we keep treating Scripture as an “obvious unseen” we will join the rich man.
