Kings is much more than mere history, it’s more like a “preached history” or a sermon on history that addresses deep rooted sins and deep rooted needs that the people of Israel experienced and that everyone of us have or are currently experiencing as well. The book is written to the people of Judah who are in exile and who are wondering if there is more to the story then their ending being in a foreign land under foreign rule. The overriding message of the book of Kings is that salvation for God’s people won’t be found in wisdom, or prophets or priests, or the temple, or even the torah. Salvation is found only in our true King-King Jesus.
